
Jarl Heijstee
XSML Capital has over US$ 250 million under management, invested in over 70 SME companies in frontier markets in Africa. Jarl is responsible for the investment activities in Uganda, Kenya and Zambia. Jarl has over 25 years of experience in selecting, setting up, and managing investments funds in emerging markets. Before starting XSML, Jarl worked with FMO for 5 years, where he structured private equity and mezzanine transactions in Africa and Latin America, with a particular focus on SME and microfinance sectors. In his last role at FMO, Jarl was based in La Paz, Bolivia, where he was responsible for setting up and rolling out a local currency microfinance fund for Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to FMO, Jarl was a consultant with Arcadis managing private sector investment projects in Eastern Europe. Jarl spent 5 years as a portfolio manager of ABN Amro’s Global Emerging Market Equity Fund, where he was instrumental in bringing the fund into the top quartile. Jarl holds an MA in Business Administration from the University of Groningen and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
